We investigate traumatic injury to the musculoskeletal system and in particular cartilage tissues. Traumatic injury exists in its unexpectedness and immediacy, requiring ad-rem therapies. One particular field of expertise are mensicus tears.
Meniscus rupture affects 0,16% of the population and is the second most common orthopedic procedures, with over 1.7M worldwide.
The rate of meniscus repair is growing from about 10% (2011) to 25% (2016). The target age group is also expanding from about 40 years old to 65 (2011 to 2016)
Meniscal resection is widely performed, so post-meniscectomy osteoarthritis can be expected in the coming years. This represents a social and economic burden for national health systems, as well as a reduced patient mobility and quality of life.
There are no satisfactory therapies or treatments available on the market today that are cost-effective, prevent osteoarthritis and stimulate regeneration of the original mensicus tissue. That is where we make a change.
